~ Today’s Scripture art and mini Bible study will clue you in on the specifics God’s Word gives for how to actually enjoy the Bible! ~

Are you as bummed as I am that Fixer Upper is in it’s last season? I really look forward to that show each week and I’m sorry to see it end. (Updated: Now it’s back!) Every Tuesday night, I grab my snack and hot tea and cozy blanket. Then I hunker down and I’m mesmerized for an hour as the less-than-desirable houses are transformed into not only things of beauty, but homes that are absolutely perfect for the new home-owners.
As I’ve spent time watching Chip and Joanna, I feel like we have become friends. It’s a little sad to think I won’t be spending that time with them anymore.
Do you have a show you feel this way about?
One that’s just plain and simple enjoyment?
What if …
What if we felt that way about the Bible?
What if we really looked forward to watching “God’s show” in His Word?
What if we couldn’t wait to hear what new thing He had for us?
What if we hopped out of bed excited to get all cozy with coffee and the Word?
What if we hunkered down and were mesmerized for an hour as our less-than-desirable self was transformed into not only a thing of beauty, but someone absolutely perfect for God to use?
Wait – a whole hour?
Didn’t you just spend an hour watching Fixer Upper?
You see my point.
What if we felt like we were friends with Jesus and Paul and Nehemiah and Mary – and so many more – because we watched their lives unfold?
What if the Bible had a “last season” and we wouldn’t be able to see it anymore? (Thank goodness that’s not the case.)
Matthew 24:35: Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.
Matthew 5:18: For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
But would our attitude change if we thought our Bible was about to be taken away?
What if we actually enjoyed the Bible?
Jeremiah 15:16: Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.
Eat those Words.
And see what they become.
Which came first, eating the Word or the delight?
The desire or the discipline?
We talked about this concept last week, but it is worth looking into further.
The NLT Bible uses the word devour. I like that word-picture.
Jeremiah 15:16 (NLT): When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight …
Let’s overeat!
Psalm 1:2: But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
Day and night!
Psalm 19:8 (NLT): The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living.
The Word will bring rejoicing in my heart.
The studying comes first.
The desire to study – the enjoyment – comes second.
So if you want to desire God’s Word … if you want all these “what ifs” … you know what to do.
Eat up!
Psalm 119:14: In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
Psalm 119:143: Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight.
Romans 7:22: For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being,
*My prayer for you is … that this blog will inspire you to open your Bible every single day to seek God’s face and write His Word on your heart – because HE’S the key to lasting heart change!
