7 Solutions I Learned This Spring

Once a quarter, I look forward to reading Emily Freeman’s “What We Learned” series. I am fascinated with the premise not only because I like to learn (especially from the Bible – as you have probably figured out by now) but because it makes me sit back and take stock. Emily always includes the most interesting things and I learn several new things from her post every time! So – you guessed it – I am joining in! And I hope you will learn something new from me today. Life-long learning here we come!
Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are 7 completely random solutions I learned this spring.
Of course, seven!
1. Solution for Stainless Steel Streaks
{Whoa – say that three times fast.} This first tip actually caused a true happy dance in our home. Our old refrigerator was “fake stainless” and was easy to clean. Our new refrigerator is real stainless steel and is a magnet to fingerprints as well as stubborn streaks from trying to clean them. When I googled how to clean stainless steel, I found everything from vinegar and olive oil to club soda and WD-40. And of course there are always store-bought cleaners. The problem was: I still had streaks. Pinterest to the rescue. I found a pin that suggested using Pledge – yes, furniture polish! It was worth a try since I already had it in my cabinet. I sprayed a little on a soft cloth, then rubbed in a circular motion, and voila! Streak free.
2. Solution for Finding Solutions
After writing number one, it dawned on me that it included another eureka I learned this spring. I may be way behind in figuring this one out, but just in case you might be like me, here’s a tip: search Pinterest before google. You just might get better answers like I did. I feel like Pinterest is more like asking your friends, while google is more like asking a computer – that may or may not know the nuances of what you’re asking.
3. Solution for Exercising With Aching Feet
If you are like me and have pounded your poor feet through all sorts of exercise for I-don’t-even-want-to-tell-you how many years, then may I suggest you try on a pair of Hoka running shoes. I just found these through a fellow Jazzerciser when I discovered I could no longer get the other pair I had bought several times in a row. Oh my goodness, I’ve never felt anything like them. Not even close. First, let me warn you that they are kind of ugly and they are outrageously priced. But boy oh boy are they comfy. I have obviously reached the age where comfort overrules cuteness in the shoe department. Even though it is very unlike me to spend this kind of money on shoes, I ended up getting the arahi, but I almost got the bondi 5 because it had a wider toe box. I promise your feet will be happy with either one!
4. Solution for Loving the Hard-to-Love
This is hands-down the best thing I learned this spring. How can we possibly love everyone the way God wants us to? I wrote all about it in this post about 1 John 4:7.
Go read it if you need help with verses like these …
Romans 12:10 (NIV): Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
5. Solution for Mommy Guilt
I read several good books this spring, but one book that surprisingly taught me a lot was The Super Mom Myth. Here’s one more uplifting quote from Becky Kipitzke:
“Understand that God’s love for you is not dependent on what you do. Your value is set by God – long before you became a mom. God loves you for who you are. We get this: we’re moms. We have an inbred love for our children that persists even when they misbehave or drive us nuts. And if we, flawed mortals that we are, can hold such deep affection for our sons and daughters in spite of their failings, imagine how much more a holy, impeccable Creator God can love us, His own children.”
Luke 12:6-7 (ESV): Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
Our value is set by God – not by what we do. Thank You Lord.
6. Solution for a Father’s Day Gift
When I posted this on instagram, a reader said she was going to keep it in mind for Father’s Day. My wonderful readers have the best ideas!
7. Solution for My Face Breakouts
This one probably falls into the “where have I been” category. Forgive me if you already know this. I came across this article and I did a double take. I even did a quick search to make sure the information was correct – and it appears all the experts agree. Did you know that we are supposed to clean our makeup brushes at least once a month and preferably once a week? Once a week! Yikes, I thought I was doing good by replacing my brushes once a year. I stand corrected.
There you have it. Seven sensational solutions in spring! Ok, sensational might be stretching it. But it was a good quarter for learning. Hope you learned a lot too!
*My prayer for you is … that this blog will inspire you to open your Bible every single day to seek God’s face and write His Word on your heart – because HE’S the key to lasting heart change!
