We all want to do better memorizing Scripture, right? I know I do – especially after I did some research on whether or not the Bible tells us to memorize it.

Hint: I found a lot of verses like these …

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 (ESV): And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

What if I told you that you could make a free tool to help you memorize Scripture? Well, technically I guess it would cost you the price of ink to print a few pages, but other than that, you probably have everything you need lying around the house.

Just take a look at this cute booklet I made without making a single trip to the store.

You won’t believe how easy it was to make.

Ready to dive in? Here’s the step by step …

Step 1 – Cut some old poster board to your preferred size.

I cut my poster board to be 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches so when folded, my finished booklet would be 5.5 inches tall and 4.25 inches wide (quarter page size).

You could also use the free printables I send each week and make your finished booklet 8.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches wide (half page size).

Step 2 – Choose some colorful scrapbook paper for the cover.

Cut your scrapbook paper to the same size as the poster board you just cut. Fold them both in half. Save the scrapbook cover-paper for later.

Step 3 – Print out the printable verses you want to memorize.

I used the note card printables found in my shop. But you could also use the greeting card printables (which is the size I send to subscribers every other Thursday). Either way, fold them in half. These will be your pages.

Fun Fact: You may be surprised how much easier it is to memorize a verse when you have a “visual” in your mind. That is why I like to memorize Scripture art!

Put your folded pages inside your folded poster board to make a booklet.

Step 4 – Punch 2 holes in your booklet using a hat pin or large needle.

I punched my holes about 1 1/2 inches from the ends. If you are making the larger booklet, you will want to make it 2 1/2 inches from the ends.

Step 5 – Thread a double strand of thread through the holes making sure your knot will be on the outside.

You may want to do step 5 twice to make it more durable.

Step 6 – Tie a knot. Trim the thread.

I know, I know. I should have used a different color thread so you could see it better! Might need to pull out the reading glasses.

Step 7 – Trim the pages.

See how the pages stick out from the poster board cover? Well, you can leave it that way if it doesn’t bother you, but to make it look more professional, trim the pages that stick out with an X-acto knife.

I ran my X-acto knife along the edge of a metal ruler.

Step 8 – Glue the scrapbook paper onto the poster board cover.

This will cover up your knot and thread.

A glue stick would be the easiest way to glue the scrapbook paper to the poster board, but since I didn’t have one on hand, I simply brushed on a thin film of white glue.

Step 9 – Write “Memory Verses” on the front.

You will have some blank pages inside to add any more memory verses that the Lord lays on your heart in the future.

And there you have it!

I wasn’t kidding, was I? It really was easy! I’m not even sure you can call it “crafty.” {grin}

Ok, if you insist on calling it crafty, we will. But just remember that this craft project is different than most because it can truly bless you and deepen your relationship with Jesus!
