I am a proud member of the Launch Team for Sarah Geringer’s new book: Transforming Your Thought Life, and I am excited to be able to give you a sneak peek!
First, I want to give you a broad overview of what the book is about. Then I will give you the scoop on my personal favorite ways to transform your thought life. (I have chosen 3 out of the 10 that Sarah lists in her book.)
Plus, you will definitely want to read all the way to the end of this post because I have four interview questions answered by the author herself!
How cool is that?!
Since I am on the launch team, I got an advanced copy (signed!) of Transforming Your Thought Life. But I also pre-ordered one too (great gift idea)! And I have been anxiously awaiting the moment that I could tell you all about it.
Sarah Geringer fills her book with honest and transparent struggles from her own thought-life highs and lows – and what God is doing to transform her thinking.
She explains, “You have an average of 60,000 thoughts every day, and up to 80 percent of those thoughts are negative. Almost all of today’s thoughts are recycled from yesterday’s negative thoughts. To stop this negative cycle, you must replace your negative thoughts with positive thoughts rooted in God’s Word.”
Paul wholeheartedly agrees in …
2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV): We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
If you would like to dive deep into the HOW (our favorite question) of taking every thought captive to obey Christ, then this book is just the ticket.
No matter what kind of thought-issues you personally wrestle with, Sarah covers them all. Just take a look …
The best part of each of those chapters? Sarah gives you a list of specific verses to meditate on and memorize for each problem area.
Ok, as promised, I want to share a peek at the “how” from Sarah’s book. She lays out 10 action guidelines and I have chosen my favorite three. If you’ve been around here for any length of time, these three will not surprise you one bit.
3 Ways to Transform Your Thought Life
1 – Bring Your Bible
“Whether you prefer a printed Bible, a Bible app, or a verse written on a sticky note, Scripture needs to be the central point of your meditation time.”
2 – Write It Out
“Keep a special notebook in which you simply write out one verse a day. You may be surprised at how much sticking power the verse will have with this technique.”
3 – Post Your Verse
“To help you remember your verse, post it somewhere you will see it often. Jot it on a sticky note and place it on your bathroom mirror, refrigerator door, or computer screen.”
Note from Alyson: You can also use one of my free printables! {grin}
We can and should do these practical steps, but Sarah weaves throughout her book the truth that we cannot change our thoughts on our own. God has to change us from the inside out.
Transforming Your Thought Life takes us on that journey.
Now let’s interview Sarah who, as you will see, is amazing …
Why do we struggle so much in our thought lives?
Sarah: Our thought lives form the structure for our words and actions. Every problem we have begins in our thoughts. Since no one else knows our thoughts except God, we think we can hide them. However, what you think in your inward life inevitably spills out onto your outward life. You can either be defeated in your thought life before you ever take action, or you can transform your thought life with the power of God’s Word. You can have victory in your thought life struggles by meditating on the truths in Scripture.
What is Christian meditation and how can it help someone conquer thought-life problems?
Christian meditation is simply focusing on a scripture and thinking about it with intent. The more you focus on God’s Word through meditation, the more you learn about God’s will for your life. You can apply scriptural truths directly to specific thought life problems and experience freedom. For example, if you struggle with painful thoughts, you can meditate on verses about God’s comfort. By repeating these verses every time you experience a painful memory, you can begin to reroute the neural pathways in your brain. When you do this over and over, you begin to think differently because God’s truth replaces the lies planted by your enemy Satan.
What do you want readers to learn most from Transforming Your Thought Life?
Sarah: I want readers to learn about the power God’s Word gives us to break free from spiritual strongholds. Many of us have Bibles in our possession, but do not understand how God’s Word literally holds the solution to all our problems. By internalizing God’s Word in our hearts through Christian meditation, our thought lives can truly be transformed for good.
What gives you inspiration for your books?
Sarah: My main source of inspiration is from my daily Bible reading. I’ve gone through the One Year Bible since 2003, and it is a perpetual fountain of inspiration for me. I also mine my journals for personal stories. Readers love stories, so I collect them as often as possible from conversations and even movies or television shows.
Thank you Sarah for inspiring us today!
